“The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth.” Psalm 29:3
Some
people think it’s a waste of time to simply sit at God’s feet and
listen. It is not a waste of time to wait on God any more than a
woodsman is wasting time when he sharpens his axe.
The voice of the Lord led Abraham to the mount where he was supposed to sacrifice his only son. His precious. Yet he believed when his servant asked him, he mentioned he and his son would return after he had completed the sacrifice but never panicked that the Lord could take what he had once given to him freely.
Yes he was faithful all the way and when he had tied the young Isaac to the wood and was about to slay the boy for the glory of the Lord, there was that voice which he had been expecting and same came the Lamb which was offered freely from the Lord for his own glorification. That was the first time the Lord made it clear to us all that he was willing to receive sacrifice from his own availability and that you and i cannot please him with our sacrifice. His sacrificial lamb was the best that can please him and today he not only reminded us of that day at the mount but he told us that what could have been with Isaac was with-held for his own son to bear... the sins of the whole wide world.
The Judaism nature has offered many sacrificial lambs for the remission of sin and till this day it goes on but i bet you it is useless cause it does not please God one bit that these creatures of his could be an atonement for sin. His precious sinless Lamb in the person of Christ has done it once and for all and still remain a propitiation for our sins in that with his we can do all things... Please be certain to understand what it means to do all things. You are not restricted my brethren to either what is right or wrong, good or bad, forbidden or cursed, illegal or legit but with the right spirit in you, you should be guided into doing what is best to please the father, the son and the Holy spirit.
In
his booklet “Tyranny of the Urgent,” Charles Hummel wrote, “When we fail
to wait prayerfully for God’s guidance and strength, we are saying,
with our actions if not our lips, that we do not need Him….Prayerful
waiting on God is indispensable to effective service. Like the time-out
in a football game, it enables us to catch our breath and fix new
strategy…The need is not the call. The call must come from the Lord who
knows our limitations.”
Read Psalm 29. Count how many
times the phrase “voice of the Lord” is repeated. Spend at least that
many minutes listening for His voice and trusting He will speak His will
to you.
